It can if you cut the rod the same length as the full tiles you may be able to fudge the datum line a tad

hahhahahaha.... thought of that.........but a gauge rod cant "gauge" the cut to the floor.....(its really minimal and sloping).......not to mention that the datum is sloping a bit also!!!!!...

The grab between ceramics and hardi is almost instant with cenent based adhesives IMO...I had to use a deeper trowel than I would have liked too ( to meet the plastering bead)........ and I guess...
